Mr Christopher Gibson
UK Programme Manager, IBM Research
Talk: IBM Research: The World is Our Lab
Abstract: Christopher will give an overview of IBM Research’s world-wide team and the ways that we are transforming industries through science and AI. He will illustrate this with several collaborative research projects that we are working on in the UK in the areas of AI, IoT and a novel new approach to security.
Christopher has spent his 30-year career working in a variety of research, development and consultancy roles spanning an eclectic mix of technology areas including user experience and human-computer interaction (including real-time command and control), information visualisation, real-time simulation systems, distributed computing for both enterprise and resource-constrained networks, model-driven architectures, and policy-based approaches to configuring and delivering services. He has co-authored numerous journal and conference papers in these areas.
Christopher led the “Agile Sensor Networks and Data Discovery” project of a ten-year collaborative US/UK research programme—the International Technology Alliance in Network and Information Science (www.usukita.org)—developing models for the management of distributed data and distributed services in MANET sensor networks. He has extensive experience in transitioning research technology into practical use, and is currently working on the exploitation of research assets in the UK Science & Technology Facilities Council's “Innovation Return on Research” (IROR) programme. Christopher also supports IBM’s UK academic relationships.
